Larry Mellors – Grand River Steelhead.

Larry’s passion for fishing comes very naturally and is truly in his blood. Since the age of four, he could be found at his father’s side on the banks of Big Creek, not only absorbing his dad’s advice and passion of fishing for migrating rainbow trout, but for of all things outdoors.

Larry enjoys fly-fishing for many species but his true passion is targeting smallmouth

bass and steelhead. His preferred choice for chasing down the magnificent chrome rockets is swinging a fly with a two-handed rod.

Larry is involved in many volunteer efforts to improve access and habitat for Ontario’s steelhead and other species. Larry’s greatest satisfaction comes from working in the stream conducting hands-on aquatic renewal initiatives. His recent work with Trout Unlimited – Middle Grand Chapter has proven to be very successful.

If there is any free time for Larry, he can be found at his fly tying bench filling his fly boxes with the classic patterns and also his own creations.

Larry has ventured several times to beautiful British Columbia in search of steelhead – bringing with him his own fly patterns which have proven to be very successful both here in Ontario and in BC.

Larry has been teaching fly casting and tying for the past 30 years – teaching fly tying at several shops in the Brantford area and has been a guest tier at many shows and shops throughout Ontario.

He is an ambassador for Hardy and Fenwick fly rods and reels.
