Learn to Fish Lessons & Instruction:

LTF ( Learn to Fish Lessons ) are available through our shop in Guelph Ontario. 

We are the leader in General Fishing Instruction, Fly Fishing Lessons and Guiding, in the immediate and surrounding area. 

Our instructors and guides will deliver a structured program that will get you “fishing” and hopefully “catching” quickly!

Perhaps you have been fishing for a while and not catching those “trophy” fish consistently. 

You will gain much from the SSAFS ( Style Specific Advanced Fishing Sessions ), where our instructor will discuss and observe your skills and make adjustments or recommendations as necessary.

Whether  you want to learn to master a basic spinning rod and reel, the baitcaster sitting in your closet because it’s frustrating, centerpin float rod and reel you bought on a whim, or the fly rod you received two years ago for Father’s Day, our instructors will guide you through the process in a way that you will participate and understand those principles while you practice them.

Hook , Line and Sinker and The First Cast Fly Shop is proud to announce that although we are now offering individual or partnered 4 hour compressive  sessions / lessons on selected Sundays.

Our 4 Hour Program Outline will include: 

A 2 hour “in-store session”, combined with 2 full hours of “outside instruction”!

During the lesson, we will discuss and educate with regards to:

  • Tackle selection and care – Rods, Reels, Lines , Lures;
  • Essential fishing knots;
  • Family Learn to Fly Fish Lesson Wet Wading TTFish identification and behaviour, understanding  lure selection including Top Water, Floating, Suspending and Sinking;
  • Casting techniques and dynamics;
  • Fishing strategies – Reading and understanding water, stalking and approach;
  • We will also discuss how to adjust and set up your equipment for different fishing situations;
  • Safety, conservation, and etiquette.

We supply all the equipment including, the rods and reels, and waders for the day if necessary!
