To Whom It May Concern,
My name is Mike Snow, and I am the organizer/host of the King of the Drift Fishing Tournament. This is a catch-and-release tournament, and our spring event is being held this year on Saturday, April 21, 2018 on the Saugeen River in Southampton, Ontario, Canada.
Ontario has one of the best freshwater fisheries in the world, and many organizations have worked extremely hard in order to help sustain this achievement. Over the years however, funding for the organizations that engage in the maintenance of the Great Lakes and its tributaries has significantly declined. It is becoming increasingly difficult to keep up with challenges that affect our fisheries, such as climate change, urbanization, and the growing interest in sport fishing in Ontario.
King of the Drift is a Steelhead tournament series that raises awareness and much needed money for the organizations that are responsible for the stocking of fish and habitat improvement for our lakes and rivers. We offer a fun-filled day of tournament fishing for anglers who love the sport as much as we do!
This year, funds raised from our spring event will go to the Ontario Steelheaders. Every year, we bring in various speakers that specialize in the tributaries hosting our event, to share their knowledge on what it takes to support a fishery on the Great Lakes tributaries.
This tournament, one of the largest Steelhead tournaments in North America, will consist of a maximum of 80 anglers per event and the entry fee is $150. 90% of the money made from registration fees is paid back to the participants in the form of cash and prizes. Our payout for the last fall tournament had 80 participants and our payout total was $19k in cash and prizes (Our payout will vary depending on the number of participants that enter and by the number of sponsors we get ). All product donations will go towards raffle prizes and angler prize packs. We also raise money by holding various Calcutta Pools (pays 90% to winner, 10% to river) and our 50/50 draws (pays 50% to winner, 50% to river).
Not only is this an exceptional event for the anglers, but by raising money and awareness, we are helping the various organizations that take care of the rivers, lakes, and fish. This tournament is largely made possible by our very generous sponsors and donors. Every year, we receive generous donations to be given to the participants of the tournament, as well as to all of the volunteers who work so hard to help us make it a success.
I am writing today to ask if you would be willing to make a donation of your choice to contribute to this important cause. In the past, we have received items such as: apparel (clothing, bags, and hats), gift cards, services (charters, guided river trips, drift boat trips, weekend cottage/resort getaways), products/merchandise (fishing gear/accessories: rods, reels, lures, bait cures, bait, floats, fishing line, etc.) Any size donation would be very much appreciated, along with a company banner with your company name and logo, to be displayed at the tournament. All sponsors’ information and donations will be listed on our Facebook page.
To our returning sponsors, we thank you for your continued dedication and support; and to all of our potential new sponsors, we look forward to working with you this coming year!
Please remember that this tournament is 100% non -profit and we have raised over 18k of much needed money for the Ontario Steelheaders.
